Want to make your boat trailer last for more years? Keep up with the following maintenance tasks.

Rinse After Use

Corrosion is a common problem for boat trailers. A great way to prevent corrosion is by cleaning your boat trailer after using it, especially if you've gone boating in salt water or polluted water.

If possible, wash the boat trailer at the boat ramp. If that's not available, consider going to a car wash or washing it at home.

Keep the Boat Trailer Dry

After you wash the boat trailer, you'll want to place it in a well-ventilated area so that it can dry. If you place a cover over it, make sure the air can still effectively circulate under it. The cover should also not sag, which can result in pooling water.

Address Rust Immediately

If you notice any rust build up, take care of it as soon as possible. Afterwards, you'll want to add a preventative coating (like a cold galvanizing compound).

Check the Tires

Poorly maintained tires can cause a range of problems, from reduced tow vehicle fuel efficiency to an increased chance of a blow out. That's why you'll want to regularly inspect the tires. Make sure that they are inflated to the correct levels, have enough tread, and are free of any damage.
